Any dental emergency can be potentially serious and must NOT be ignored!

Ignoring dental problems increases the risk of permanent damage to your teeth and gums and typically leads to more extensive dental treatment later on. To schedule emergency dental care please call us at (480) 538-8264 or email us at dentist@saramosleydds.com. We are here to help you!

Common Dental Emergencies and Treatment

Toothaches

Before you do anything rinse your mouth with warm water. Use dental floss to remove any food in the area. Take an anti-inflammatory analgesic such as ibuprofen to reduce swelling. NEVER put painkillers directly against your teeth or gums, however, as that will lead to burning your gum tissue and causing more damage! Contact your dentist as soon as possible to schedule emergency dental care.

Lost Fillings

Floss and brush the area well. As a temporary solution you may place a small piece of sugarless gum in the cavity. Make an appointment with your dentist immediately for emergency dental care.

Lost Crown/Caps Emergency

If your crown falls off, save it and bring it with you to your dentist as soon as possible. In the meantime, you may be able to slip it back on temporarily: make sure the inside is clean and coat it with a tooth cement or dental adhesive paste, which may be found in dental sections of your local pharmacy. Also, avoid eating or drinking on that side until it is fixed by your dentist.

Chipped or Broken Teeth

Save your broken piece of tooth! Rinse your mouth with clean warm water. If there is bleeding, apply gentle pressure to the area for at least 10 minutes. You may also place a cold compress on the outside of your mouth to reduce pain and swelling. You should see your dentist immediately for emergency dental care!

Extruded Teeth

Call your dentist right away to schedule emergency dental care. Until you reach your family dentist, apply a cold compress to the outside of the mouth at the affected area to relieve pain.
